Sitting in the middle seat, in the second row with one empty seat on my left on the very first day of our Masters course, you wouldn’t normally expect to have someone walk in a sit next you let alone become one of your closest friends. But that’s where destiny plays its game, I guess. Just a few minutes before the introductory lecture is about to start, I see a very tall, blonde haired guy come and sit in the empty seat by my side. That’s how I met Julian, now the CEO of e-PHOENX.
Being from a field of study that constantly urges us to think outside the box, contribute to society in some way whilst also protecting the environment we live in, we realised how much electronic items we have that were too old to use or a mobile phone that was completely unwanted due to the release of another iPhone. Not to mention, how much useful materials each of these electronic goods contained. What if we could recycle these electronic goods, extract the useful materials that any industry could use?! We would be contributing to society as well as protecting the environment. And that’s how we got the idea to start an e-waste recycling company.
How do we work?
We take any of your unwanted or old electronic goods from your hands – this can be anything from a mobile phone, a laptop, an MP3 player or even a whole TV! – and we process them with chemicals such as hydrochloric acid and nitric acid to extract metals and other useful materials that can be recycled and reused in any industry. But don’t worry, we don’t want to leave our customers empty-handed. By donating your old and unwanted electronic wastes you will get the chance to win a voucher of your choice from a selection of our partners.
As promised, I introduce the co-founders of e-PHOENX;
CEO – Julian Precht
CFO (me) – Shreeja Roy
We are Biotechnologists and our aim is to work together to save the planet, one computer at a time!
